Hunters Crossing - South East Water Commnity Grant There have now been meetings with each of the Council, Tanti Creek Friends and a local resident to talk further about this project. Council authorities have been signed and planning is underway. Details to follow. New Placemaking Grant We have been successful with a Community Place Making Grant for $10k, with Council, for installation of furniture at Gateway Park. The exact type of furniture and position is to be agreed with Council and needs the club to propose the ideas. If you don't know the location, it's on the corner of Barclay and Gordon Sts. Have a look. We have 12 months to deliver our project. In our application to Council we also suggested we would likely undertake a similar improvement in the vicinity of Mornington Station. Peninsula Trail Whilst neither of the above locations are yet confirmed as being on the Peninsula Trail, if they are not they will likely be important feeders to it. So we are deeming each of them to be part of our Rotary Australia Centenary projects. More about all of this at the Club Assembly on May 11. The work on a pilot signage project along the Harrap Creek Trail, starting in Civic Reserve is continuing. Homelessness Last Thursday night Ross attended a forum on Homelessness in Mt.Eliza on behalf of the Club (Victor was also goiing but could not make it at the last minute). Around 100 others also were there including several Councillors, David Morris and Peta Murphy (MP for Dunkley). Peta was part of the House of Reps inquiry into Homelessness last year. Speakers included John Baker, CEO of the Council and Russel Joseph from Peninsula Community Housing. It was a daunting night hearing how the problem is just getting worse, despite some initiatives by both their organisations. The real issue of the impending closure of the Ranch was bought home by an emotional plea by a local community worker to find a better solution, because of the success she has had with helping people recover their lives by providing this temporary accommodation. Coming up . This week's normal Club Meeting is being hosted by Richard and the International/ Foundation Committee. If you will not be there please let Pam know. The following week , May 11 is an important Club Assembly where the Committee Chairs will be providing reports on what our Committees are up to, for your endorsement, and in some cases making recommendations of expenditure for your approval, which were foreshadowed in the recent Board minutes. Brian will be back by then, for next week's Bulletin. |
