From the Editor

Good morning to my fellow Mornington Rotarians, partners and families. Since way back in April when we all started the difficult, frustrating and to a certain degree many, many changes to the way we live, I have been reporting in my Editor's Column on ongoing restrictions of the hourly, daily and weekly impact the COVID has had on all of us. Well I think its time to change the subject, enough of Lockdown !! and a return to normal and to that end what is normal in our daily lives, well I only have two little words:
Bunnings BBQ, enough said 😃

Last Weeks Club Meeting- The Rotary Club of Mornington: Board Meeting & Annual General Meeting

Last week our Club conducted its Annual AGM and this was preceded with a quick but very productive Board Meeting. The Board meeting saw a number of items presented and discussed, many of them to be presented to all Club Members in the near future for ratification, some of these were: proposed dates for upcoming face to face meetings hopefully at the Mornington Hotel ( to be confirmed shortly), the upcoming induction of two new members, educational programmes for our local Primary Schools, remaining funds for BushFire relief allocation, funding to Clubs from District to hold events to celebrate Australia Day and from the Art Show Chair, Richard, updates on the format of the many aspects & taskings currently underway for our Art Show.  Many of these items will be presented to the members over the coming weeks.

Following the Board Meeting we then conducted our Club's Annual AGM. The AGM was conducted within a short time frame with all mandatory Agenda Items covered with two noteworthy items, that being the nomination and acceptance of the 2021 to 2022 Rotary Club of Mornington Executive Board Positions and the ongoing Appointment of the Club's Auditor.

It's finally arrived, yes our next and first meeting in six months, NOT via ZOOM , Meeting ID: 927 056 436 , and Password: 294331 is only one sleep away, and tomorrow evening we can all gather and chat over a some fine dining and a glass of Red.  Tomorrow evening at The Mornington Golf Club should be great affair, and for those who may have got side-tracked and missed the numerous invitations it may be too late to
" book-in " due to the Indoor Social Gathering Guidelines. For any possible seats left and or a late cancellation please contact our Social Officer -                   Eileen Prudden Phone: 0400 118 467 or email:  eileen.prudden@outlook.com

Bunnings B-B-Q's

Well the time has come to roll up your sleeves, don those Protective Gloves, Aprons and Face Masks and be "covered" in the alluring aroma of grilled snags and onions. The Bunnings Sausage Sizzle has now become part of our Aussie culture and so much so I can report from a reliable source that over the past three weeks Bunnings had had dozens of phone calls on a daily basis, not asking about products, plants or produce, not even opening and closing times, but yes " can you tell me when the Sausage Sizzle will start !!

So to that end our Club has been very fortunate to have been selected, via a ballot conducted by Bunnings, from the many Community Organisations, to deliver the first BBQ on Saturday 05th Dec 2020.
It should prove to be a very, very busy day. There will be a big change from the traditional single marquee and the way in which we cook, deliver and accept funds. Having said this four of our members will undergo training (as mandated by the company) as designated Team Captains to ensure all new Guidelines are adhered to.

The biggest change that we will see is that all BBQ's will now need a team of x 6 persons at any one time to " man the BBQ ", so this will most likely mean a morning and afternoon crew. Once the training has been conducted David Lancashire our intrepid BBQ Man will be able to provide a more specific briefing and proposed rosters and taskings for those who wish to volunteer.  So as our club will be the " benchmark ' for the Bunnings BBQ's with the new format, I would strongly encourage a " full turnout " and if you are available please keep Saturday 05th Dec 2020 free in your diary !!

To finish off the Month of November we have a few Birthdays and Members Anniversaries to acknowledge, firstly a very big Happy Birthday to one of members Peter Huels who will celebrate his Birthday this coming Thursday 26th Nov 2020 and also one of our members partners (Joe Siragusa) in Julie for her Birthday at the end of the month on the 30th Nov 2020.
We also see that Peter Huels and Nadine have just celebrated their Anniversary last week on the 20th Nov 2020.  To Julie, Peter and Nadine on behalf of our President, The Board all our Club Members and their Partners we wish to extend a very big Happy Birthday and Anniversary, well done and we wish you many more to come, congratulations.

Annual Christmas Toy Collection

As Christmas is very, very fast approaching us we once again should all take time to reflect and our thoughts are with those who may have a sparse Christmas Day and especially for those children who may not have a present under the tree to open. So our clubs contribution along with Nicholas Lynch Real Estate, the MCISC and Toyworld in Main St will be conducting an annual Toy Collection. The details are contained in this weeks Presidents Report.

President’s Report – 24th November 2020

I look forward to seeing everyone at our promised social night – Christmas Dinner on Wednesday.  Thank you Eileen for organising over 40 people. It’s a 2 course Christmas dinner at the Mornington Golf Club, 6pm for 630pm. The Club will buy your first drink! We will take this opportunity to formally welcome and induct Roberta and Peter Orton.
Wednesday December 2 we are hopefully back to normal club meetings, and being the first Wednesday of the month our feature guest speaker is Sharon Smit, President of the Committee for the Mornington Peninsula. We are just awaiting on confirmation from the Hotel based on the weekend’s announcements.

Welcome to Jo Davie, a guest at last week’s meeting, our dinner guest this Wednesday, and our most recent new applicant for membership.

Christmas presents or families Through the Mornington Community Information and Support Centre and with the support of  Nicholas Lynch Real Estate we now have the promotional posters for the collection of Christmas presents via both the MCISC & Toyworld in Main St..  Toyworld are also offering the 10% discount again for purchases that go to this community project.

A new Club and Art Show Sponsor. We are very pleased to welcome a new sponsor to the Club and the Art Show – the Mornington Retirement Village, owned by Southern Cross Care, who also offer home care services on the Peninsula. Southern Cross Care a national company based in SA, purchased the Mornington last year, and you may have noticed all the new branding at 150 Mornington Tyabb Rd.

Australia Day 2021 Nationally the Australia Day Council has made available around $1.5m for Rotary Clubs to help local communities celebrate Australia Day. We have applied to run a morning tea / coffee adjacent to the Art Show. Any creative ideas welcome.

Regards

Ross
