07th July 2020 Bulletin
From the Editor

Good morning my fellow Rotarians, well another beautiful day on the Mornington Peninsula 😳 and this issue of our Club Bulletin welcome's in another Rotary Year, and as we are all aware with that comes a fair few changes. Our New District Governor is Mark Humphries and also a swag of new appointments at District Level.  On the " Home Front " our Club has undergone some changes to our Board and Directors but these changes are only minor with the majority of our major Club Appointments staying relatively the same as last year. We have Ross Kilborn at the helm as our Club President, Treasurer - John Parkinson,  Secretary-  Ian Horton,  President Elect - Brian Mann, Immediate Past President - Ross Kilborn, and our Directors are Chair Community & Vocational - Peter Jay, Chair International & Foundation - Richard Vautier, Chair Youth - John Renowden, Board Member & Social Officer - Eileen Prudden , Public Relations- Brian Mann and Club Protection Officer - Fran Chambers.  At our Board Meeting, last week, via ZOOM , our President welcomed all new appointee's and expressed his gratitude for all the efforts and diligent work done by all over the past year and with the new Mornington Rotary Club Board and Director's we should have another successful year in 2020/2021.

Our New DG

Hello Everyone,

image

Here we are at the start of a new Rotary year. A year that will see change. Past District Governor Adrian asked us all to Break the Changes, we did. Now I am asking you to Change. Our clubs need to change, we need to look at what we are doing and how we engage with our communities and each other. We need to be bold, International President Holger Knaak has asked you to challenge your thinking, how can you make you clubs more inviting, how can you better reflect your community needs and wants, how can you actively involve younger people in meaningful ways? Stop doing and stop saying, this is how we have always done it or we tried that once and it didn’t work. Times have changed, we need to change.

To help clubs adapt to new times and ways of doing things we have put together a team of people who want to help, a group of people with idea that they want to share with you. You are not alone, do not try an reinvent the wheel all the time, work with each, learn as a team, engage with other clubs in your cluster, be involved with projects outside our District, become a project driven club.

Your new team to help invigorate all areas of your Rotary club are ready to help, they wont tell you what to do. They will help you, lead you, give you ideas and importantly be involved with the process all along the way. Please make use of the team,

Social Evening

On Wednesday evening the 15th July 2020, our club will host its first face to face Social Event. Our Club President and Social Officer have combined to ' secure ' the Mornington Hotel Bistro for our first meeting, at a personal level, since cessation of all activities 124 days ago !!!! By now you should have seen the email that was promulgated last week in relation to this event.  Should you have missed the correspondence, just a reminder that we will gather, as a Club, for a social evening with no Club Business, at the Mornington Hotel on the 15th July 2020 at 6;00pm. Should you wish to attend please drop a line via SMS or email to Eileen ASAP, as tomorrow evening will be the ' cut off " for acceptance's.

Next Club Meeting - Wednesday 08th July 2020 , via ZOOM

President's Update
This week – July 8 we have Judy Seager to present, via Zoom, her biography, an insight into her interest in Aboriginal Communities,  and a Report on the District 9820 Avenues of Service she attended last week.
It’s at 6pm on Zoom via this link
Meeting ID: 927 056 436  Password: 294331

Then on July 15 we are aiming for a social dinner at the Mornington Hotel, in the Bistro. The Mornington Hotel is allowing bookings of up to 20 in the Bistro. So we have booked for 20 for the second sitting 6.30-7.45pm. It’s all based on seated table service of the normal Bistro menu and required distancing. We need to confirm we have 20 this week so please advise Eileen if you will be attending, and if your partner is interested in also attending (in case we do not get the full 20 Rotarians we will include the first partners registered). It’s on a strictly first in basis. And bookings close at this week’s meeting. There will not be any club business, it’s a social catch up.

Last week our meeting was a Board meeting. Minutes of this will be circulated shortly and are consistent with the updates members have been getting through recent Bulletins. We do recommend that Ben Hansen (Padua College) be our nominee for the National Youth Science Forum in the ACT in January 2021.  We declined a Defibrilator request from Leslie Moorhead Kindergarten.
We have a Mornington Rotary Team participating in Fusion’s “Sleep in Your Car” on Saturday August 1. It’s Fusion’s major Fundraising event and normally held in Mornington Park but this year you can do it in your driveway, garage etc. or even on your couch. You can donate OR join the team at https://sleepinyourcar2020.gofundraise.com.au/page/MorningtonRotary

Supporting the environment becomes Rotary's seventh area of focus, which are categories of service activities supported by Rotary Foundations global grants. It joins peacebuilding and conflict prevention; disease prevention and treatment; water, sanitation, and hygiene; maternal and child health; basic education and literacy; and community economic development. Applications for projects will be accepted beginning on 1 July 2021.

Ross
