26th July 2021
From the Editor's Desk

Good morning to all Mornington Rotary Club Members, Partners and Families and I hope all is well and you are managing to stay inside and warm !!. With another lockdown and the weather elements up to its normal Peninsula Wintery conditions staying indoors and watching the 2020 or is it the " makeup" 2021 Olympics seems to be the best place to be. Not a lot to report on this week, but it was pleasing to see we had some "visitors" turn up last week with two Southern Right Whales pay us a visit, great to see this in our local backyard.

Club Meeting, last week, Wed 14th July 2021

Once again the "stay safe at home restrictions" had us get together via ZOOM with about 13 or so members tune-in. It was great to see and hear from Ross, Victor and Joe who provided a brief  overview of their escapades up north over the past three weeks or so. A particular point of note from Ross was as you would expect this time of the year was the huge number of caravans/ camper vans throughout central and coastal QLD. Booking into Caravan and Campgrounds is at a premium. Joe looked very relaxed and pointed out that his travels into NT have meet with some pretty strict border crossing Checkpoints , as Joe said " they are taking it pretty serious up here " . When Joe joined us he was with family and looked pretty relaxed and was just " in training" for his upcoming entry into the Local Open Golf Tournament . As for Victor he was very pleased to be in a warmer climate and was hoping to catch up with a few of our other fellow club members, and as when one is on the Sunshine Coast, heading off for dinner with the family to " great eatery in warmer climates " the Local Surf Club " We didn't get to hear from Richard who was literally on his way home, but hopefully at this weeks ZOOM meeting we can hear from Richard and Pam about their holiday. To Ken & Wendy and also to John & Barbara we hope that you may be able to " get away ' too warmer climates in the future.

Our Next Club Meeting, Wed 28th July 2021- Another ZOOM Meeting
As we all expected our upcoming Club Meeting, this week, will once again be via online ZOOM, with a few items of Club Business and more of a social " get together " , for the time being, until we can get together face to face. With our scheduled Guest Speakers who were planned to attend our weekly club meetings all have conveyed that they want to deliver their  presentations in a " normal setting" and subsequently there have been a number of postponements to this element of club proceedings. Having a look thru our fellow Peninsula Club Bulletins ' we are not alone on our Pat Malone" when it comes to Guest Speakers , so hopefully we do not have to wait to long to get back to the Mornington Hotel.

This weeks upcoming Club Meetings online details are : Meeting ID 733 5522 4155 , and Passcode cVg6s3, the link to directly log-into the meeting will be sent out tommorrow to all members.

With our upcoming meetings, if we come out go lockdown our first planned/hopefully face to face meeting with be on Wednesday 4th Aug 2021, but please be aware attendance at this meeting will no doubt be subject to Hospitality Density Limits within Venue Dining Rooms, whereby we will conduct a Club Assembly. With the new Rotary Year and our Clubs new Board there will be a number of items of business that will be presented to all Members, so keep an eye out for the status ( green for go ! ?? ) of this meeting.

Annual Club Fees
As detailed within this weeks Presidents Report we still have a number of members who may have overlooked the requirement to be up to date with the Annual Rotary Membership Fee's. So if you haven't as paid into our Club Account it would be great if you could have this item of financial business completed within the next week or so, thanks. Payment can be made direct via EFT into our Bank - Bendigo Bank - BSB 633-000 & Members Acct  146 806 344

FUSION - Sleep in Your Car
As has been the case for many years FUSION will conduct a very, very important event to raise funds to provide to those in our community in much need of help in what we all take for granted in our daily lives, that being able to hop into a nice warm bed in our own homes. I would encourage all our Club Members to " dig deep ' and any donation will be well worth while to help out those doing it tough and even more so with this very bitterly cold weather we have upon us.

STAY HOME, but what happens when you don't have a home Tonight more than 116,000 Australians are experiencing homelessness. 42% are under the age of 25. Sleep In Your Car is an annual event during Homelessness Week. By registering to sleep out in 2021 you are partnering with us to provide accommodation, support, opportunity, and hope for young people experiencing homelessness in our community.

How can you get involved?

Presidents Report 26th July 2021

     Good afternoon to all Members

This past two weeks has once again been very challenging for all concerned with our daily lives once again turned “ around” and bringing into play an all too familiar routine, and this has also had an effect on elements of Club functioning. But it was great to see a number of members “ turn out “ last week at our Club’s Online ZOOM Meeting

This Sunday, just passed, was my first Peninsula Cluster Presidents Meeting, online as expected. It was great to get together and find out what our fellow Peninsula Clubs are up to and connect with our Peninsula Presidents, we also had our DG, Bill Degnan address us and pass on a number a matters of District news/ updates
  • RLI training dates coming up. https://rotary9820.org.au/page/district-training-programs

  • District Conference – Traralgon – 25.2.22 to 27.2.22 – Registration coming soon (see flyer attached)
  • District Merger between D9810 and D9820 – ongoing discussions. D9820 currently has 1,131 members.
  • Royal Melb Show – looking for 300 volunteers – would allow a free booth for the 11-day Show
  • Town entry Rotary signs – to claim $250, must comply – send to Public Image team

  • Australian Rotary Health – refer to financial summaries. RC Mornington to host 40yr Anniversary Dinner Celebrations
From our Club, I suggested that we, once COVID restrictions allow us, to conduct a Bus trip over to the Western Suburbs to visit and tour thru the Donations in Kind Warehouse accompanied with a Social Luncheon. Keep and eye out for this possible outing come the warmer weather months.

With our Clubs Annual RI and District Club Subscriptions as of today we only have 13 members out of 29 who have paid this dues. Please remember that as a club we will get “ billed “ at the end of July 2021, so if you may have over looked this account I would encourage all outstanding accounts to please be finalised over the next few weeks.

This weeks coming Club Meeting will once again be presented via ZOOM with a minimal amount of Club Business and more a theme of Social and “ what I’ve been up to in lockdown “. I will send out the ZOOM Meeting ID and Passcode direct to your e-mail, thus enabling you to directly log into the site. Hopefully we will see one another this coming Wednesday evening.

With the cancellation of our Bunning’s BBQ that was scheduled to go ahead yesterday, it was very pleasing to receive an e-mail from Bunning’s Mornington as follows.
“ In line with the current restrictions and in the interests of our customers, team members and community members, Bunning’s have suspended sausage sizzles and planned in-store activities from Friday 16th July to COB Wednesday 28th July. Unfortunately, this means we will have to suspend your sausage sizzle booking for the time being but are pleased to offer you a $500 gift card to ensure you are not disadvantaged.

What a great community gesture and I’m sure we will be able to utilise these funds for a future project.
Regards

Brian
