17th May 2022- Club Bulletin
From The Editor:

Well its great to back in town, just in time for the onslaught of Melbourne's infamous Winter weather !!. After talking to a number of my fellow Club Members at last Wednesday's Club Meeting who inform me that they are soon to head North to sunnier skies and warmer days, and from that I feel that I may have got my Holiday timeframe a bit "out of sync", any way I have once again spoken to John Parkinson and informed him there will be trouble if he doesn't pop out and shut the front door from the wilds of Port Phillip Bay on Main St !!. For all those who have their name on the register, don't forget this coming Saturday 21st May 2022, its that time again to join the queue and place a whole lots of numbers in two sheets of paper and deposit them into a large Cardboard Box, another one of those interesting customs we as human beings undertake.

Club Meetings:
Last week, on Wednesday 11th May 2022, our Club Hosted the Club Assembly. A good turn out by members provided some very robust, encouraging and very positive interaction to this important Rotary agenda item. It was great to see and hear that from all accounts there was a 99% active participation into the forecast of proposed Projects and Financial pledges for the next Rotary Year. Our Club President has earlier today sent out a full Report accompanied by Budget Forecast.

Our our next Club Meeting, tomorrow evening Wednesday 18th May 2022, we will host as our Guest Speaker Mr Martin Galea who is the current director of Tick Box Conveyancing. For those who have an interest in such matters as Property Law and all things linked to property management, this should prove to be an interesting presentation.

With the Club's Weekly Meetings please don't forget to have a look over the Club's Welcome Desk Roster, that was sent out some two weeks ago, for your name and Evening of your Duty, and importantly if you are unable to attend on your evening , please give a fellow Club Member a call to instigate a swap

Hunters Crossing/ Tanti Enhancement Project

Mornington Rotary Club has been successful in obtaining a grant of $2960 under the South East Water Community Grant program.
The project is to remove kikuyu weed and plant 250 indigenous plants, both trees, shrubs and ground cover, along the upper bank of Tanti Creek, in the vicinity of Hunters Crossing. The project is being delivered with the support of Tanti Creek Friends and follows great work by local residents in cleaning up litter and rubbish. Hunters Crossing is near the intersection of Pentecost and Yuilles Roads.
There are several stages to the project.
  1. Spraying the kikuyu and this will be done by Naturelinks, a Council contractor. The first spray is done and there will be further spraying to prevent regrowth
  2. Spreading of mulch and this will be done by volunteers. See the  blue box below
  3. Planting of 250 plants,  including appropriate staking and guards and will be done by volunteers. This will be done when plants are available in winter / spring.
  4. On going care and maintenance until the plants are established.
We are  be inviting volunteers from Mornington Rotary, Tanti Creek Friends and the local community to help with this project to join us this Saturday May 21 @9am to spread some mulch and plant some plants . Please bring you own gloves, a spade and barrow if you have one. If you would like to help or have input to the project you can email rosskil@bigpond.com

Rotary Food Waste & the Environment - Luncheon - Thursday 02nd June 2022 @ 12;00pm
Rotary with its partners, the Sofitel & the City of Melbourne, are proud to promote awareness of and positive outcomes for our environment.  “The Environment” has recently been adopted as an area of focus by Rotary International.
As a club of action in advocating for environmental stewardship, the Rotary Club of Melbourne has worked closely with the non-profit food rescue organisation - SecondBite - in the fight against food waste. The issue of reducing food waste  has been brought into even sharper focus by the Covid-19 pandemic, with statistics showing that roughly one-third of the food produced globally is either lost or wasted every year.
You and your colleagues are warmly invited to attend a fundraiser for SecondBite hosted by the Rotary Club of Melbourne with its partners the Sofitel – Melbourne and the City of Melbourne.  This event features a celebrity panel discussion to raise awareness of how we can reduce food waste to benefit the environment. A portion of the ticket price plus the proceeds of the raffle will support the vital work of SecondBite.  Purchase tickets HERE.

Mornington Community Information and Support Centre Inc.
Our own local MCISC has a new manager being Mr Ben Smith. Our Club President, Community Chair and also Club Member Cameron Guymer, informally meet with Ben last week to introduce our Club and provide a brief background of our past and ongoing involvement in this vital community Service. Ben also provided us with an update of all things Community and his ongoing and future plans for the Centre and all the Services it provides . From Ben's brief overview he certainly is very enthusiastic and we can be no doubt that he has a passion and a very professional approach to the task's at hand and into the future.
PS- The Graffiti that was "intentionally" added to the Rotary Sign at the MCISC has now been removed, all good back to its original format, and our sources inform that the adolescent offenders were "literally caught in the act" by a passing Police Patrol Unit, not to bright one could say !!

Presidents Report

Good afternoon to all,

Presidents Return
Good afternoon to all my fellow Mornington Rotary colleagues and Partner’s. I wish I could say its great to be back in Melbourne from my holiday in sunnier parts of our beautiful State, but alas we all have to return home to our commitments and this holiday has certainly given me a “taste“ of full retirement, not in the too far future.
I would like to extend a big thanks to Ross Killborn, Ian Horton, Richard Vautier and Jo Davie who stood up and provided their time and efforts to continue with Club Business matters, Club Meetings and the all important social gatherings over my absence, well done to all

Mornington RSL – ANZAC Day Badges
Last week I received a formal “thank you” from Helen Taylor, the Appeals Officer at our local Mornington RSL who expressed on behalf of all their Members a very big thanks to Mornington Rotary for our clubs invaluable assistance over the lead up to the 2022 ANZAC Day that saw seven of our Club Members” man the desks at various locations around town” to sell ANZAC Day badges. For those who braved the cold to be out and about for great cause, a very big well done

Mornington Rotary – Club Assembly Meeting
Last Wednesday evening our Club, via the Club President and each Club Individual Chair presented the Club Assembly Meeting.
From this meeting I have compiled a report, which has since been vetted by each Club Chair and the final two documents were finalisedto reflect an account of the evening’s proceedings. Earlier today I promulgated the Club Assembly Report and subsequent Budget Forecast Spread sheet for all members perusal

Mornington Club History – Last 25yrs Update
Over the past few days I have had the pleasure to engage with Victor Sullivan, which some of our members have tagged Victor as our Unofficial Club Historian, a most horary title. Victor along with a small team of long serving Club Members have all but completed compiling a Journal of the Club’s achievement’s over the past 25yrs, which I hear should be ready to view at our Club’s 2022-2023 Change over Dinner, and further to this item of importance, I have not had the opportunity to comment on our recently held Clubs 75th Anniversary Dinner.
Firstly, I would like to extend a very big thanks to a number of our Club’s Member’s who provided valuable assistance in the lead up and organising phase of our Clubs 75th Anniversary Dinner, being Ian Horton, Pam Hall, Eileen Prudden, Ross Kilborn, Victor Sullivan. On the night it was great to see Judy Seager, Judy Benholz, Jo Davie and Peter Jay provide valuable assistance to ensure the night ran smoothly, many thanks, and if I have unintentional omitted ant other members who assisted, my apologies.
From all accounts the evening “ went off pretty good” with not too many speeches’ and in lieu of this a fair amount of social interaction which was a priority for the evening. It was great to see a number of past Members and their Partner’s attend and from what I heard they all had a very, very enjoyable time. In order to have so many past members’ attend this was directly due to the valuable information I received from John Renowden, Edward Moore, and Geoff Gilsenan and John Parkinson. As a direct result of this I have compiled a bit of a register with all past members attended and apologies so we can record their details for future events etc.
With the many photo’s that were taken on the evening I have not had an opportunity, since my return to gather and collate all the pic’s, but I certainly plan to produce a adjunct Club Bulletin to showcase all those happy faces enjoying a great evening. In all from the feedback I have received the night was a great success and a fitting display and acknowledgement of the Club’s proud history of 75 years of amazing Community Service.
