From the Editor

Good afternoon to my fellow Mornington Rotarians, partners and friends, well what a wonderful few days we are all experiencing and by that I am referring to the beautiful balmy Autumn weather we have been delivered, with only one day until Winter is upon us, lets all make the most of that beautiful sunshine. A special hello and get well soon to one of our much loved and respected Members in Dennis Corke, the the winged warrior of man vs bike, we all send our best to young Dennis and hopefully you can get up and about in the very near future. With our current, sudden living arrangements once again turned upside down I was having a conversation with a few business owners and they are certainly doing it tough out there and it begs the question for how much longer do we have to endure these content changes to our life, only time and those in charge, on a much higher pay scale can determine this question, until then we all have to play our part and stay safe and healthy. So as a quick revert back to some months ago we will be conducting another ZOOM Meeting this coming week, details are as shown below.

Last Week - Club Meeting at  "The New Community House "

Last Wednesday evening our Club Meeting was hosted at the The New Mornington Community House, in Wilsons Road. Right from the outset as you approach the new facility the first thing you notice is how large, spacious and well appointed the building is, and this visual impression only continues as you enter the facility.  The internal surrounds of the facility ooze a bright, clean and crisp appointment of fittings and fixtures that are of an excellent standard.  The new complex is under the day to day management of Narelle Crosling. Narelle provided us with an over view of the all the services that are on offer to the menders of the community and the list is amazing and it definatley seems to cover a vast array of needs for those who wish to utilise the centre. Just to mention a few, on offer is Art Therapy, Creative Writing, Literacy Support, Meditation sessions, Macrame', A Book Club, Pins & Needs Knitting and Crocheting, just to mention a few. As well as theses services within the facility there is fully appointed kitchen and dining room, a modern state of the art Computer Room for general use and also for Instructional Learning, a very large a spacious General Use Hall, three modern fully IT equipped Meeting / Board Rooms as well as a new modern space all set up for an early (3yr old) learning and development centre.  After a very yummy dinner of a selection of Curries, that were cooked and provided by Josh from our own local community based Homeground organisation, Narelle provided us with an extensive tour of the facility which had the WOW factor, even down to the bathroom and toilet facilities that were impressive. Overall the New Community House is splendid in its appearance and more importantly the services on offer to the Mornington Community, a facility that certainly will provide all of us with a wonderful network of programs well into the future. A big thanks to Narelle and Josh for making our Rotary Club evening and enjoyable and satisfying experience.

Our Club's Next Meeting - Wed 02 June 2021 at 6:00pm

Well its a " blast from the past " with our next Club Meeting reverting back to the recent ZOOM format. Our scheduled Guest Speaker was Pam Hall's hubby John who was planning to present a face to face talk on all things legal, which will now be delayed for two weeks, all going well hopefully with no future restrictions, doh !!. So the purpose of the night is focus on more of a social theme with the opportunity for members to engage with each other and maybe we can a " what I've been up to lately " presentation ; ie how Ian & Meridith went in sunny, warm, Ballarat !!! or maybe for those who had planned a get away these coming weeks to talk about that " lost holiday ".  Also our new incumbent Club President, Brian Mann, will be providing a very brief overview of things to come over the next few months, come the 01st July 2021. So if you are free (is there really anywhere to go !!) please log-on and join in, with a fine glass of Red or White, or both this coming Wednesday evening starting at 6;00pm

We have deferred John Hall as our guest speaker until Wed June 9,  when hopefully we will be back at the Mornington Hotel.
I hope everyone enjoyed the night at our new Mornington Community Centre. I won’t duplicate Brian’s Report but you can access their website, sign up for their newsletter and courses at

Thanks again to Narelle Crosling for the hospitality and Tour,  and to Joel and Homeground for the meal.
It was very good to have so many partners as guests and also Arie and Jade Phelan, CEO, and Rebecca Hassler, Fundraising Manager, from the Bays Hospital

The Bays Hospital

Jade did mention that you can join the Bays Hospital,  and that they have a forum coming up on Back Pain – Thursday July 22. Details at https://www.thebays.com.au/news-and-events/the-bays-health-wellbeing-program/

Board Meeting

We had another constructive Board Meeting last Wednesday. You will shortly receive the Minutes. The Board put forward several recommendations for member approval at an upcoming meeting

  1. The Board agreed the recommendation of the International and Foundation Committee to invest,  this financial year,  in
    1. Polio Plus $5000
    2. Australian Rotary Foundation $5000
    3. Donations in Kind - $3500 each of this financial year,  and next,  towards the rental of their warehouse. This arose from the recent visit there to deliver the school uniforms and is consistent with what 21 other clubs provide.
  2. The Board recommends for Australian Rotary Health contributions to
    1. Lift the Lid $5000
    2. Indigenous Scholarship for Molly King for the calendar year 2021,  $2500, which has already been paid.

Marilyn and Jeff Walkley’s membership applications were also approved, and they will be Inducted at our next face to face meeting..

The Long Table The Strengthening Communities Grant of $15000 has now been confirmed and work is continuing on a design within the Budget of $45000 that is consistent with the park heritage.

Business Network International We have been invited to nominate one member for a free years membership of BNI Mornington. They meet over breakfast on Thursday mornings each week. If you are interested please let me know.

As you may have guessed I am now not away. Missed it by 72 hours. So see you on Zoom this week.
