From The Editor Good afternoon to all my fellow Mornington Rotarians and Partners, Now that the physical bulk of this years Art Show has concluded we now turn our focus and attention to the matter of a few ongoing and some very exciting upcoming major Club Projects : eg The Moondah Auction, as detailed in this weeks Presidents Report, for your perusal. Last fortnight we returned to our regular Club Meetings and a few minor changes to the Menu and Pricing. It was tremendous to welcome two new potential Club Members and we certainly look forward to seeing a fair bit more of Dr Chris Reynolds within our Club, welcome Chris. Club Meeting - Last Fortnight Last Week we heard from our own Community Chair, Cameron Guymer who presented the topic to the members in regards to the not-for-profit organisation he has founded called SunErgy Power and Communication (P&C) Australia. SunErgy P&C (AUS) is partnered with SunErgy AS (an established not-for-profit in Norway who has been delivering projects like this for the past 10 years in Africa) with a mission to bring solar micro grids to currently 'off grid' remote villages in the Pacific Islands region, and more broadly to provide power, education, industry and opportunity to remote regions of the world to lift whole communities out of poverty. Cameron and his team are focused on delivering a first pilot project, costed at $145,000 AUD, for a solar micro grid to a location called Areatakki Village in the Solomon Island, and are seeking funding from multiple Rotary clubs to add to Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade funding grants to commence the project by late 2023. More specifically, Cameron is hoping for a pledge from Rotary Mornington for $5000 and club endorsement for him to continue pitching it Club Meeting - Wed 15th Feb 23. At our Weekly Club Meeting this coming Wednesday evening we will welcome a Guest Speaker being Ms Trish Henderson from Terraspaces. Trish specialises in residential infiltration subdivision, planning and approvals and also the feasibility of clients who may wish to undertake small subdivision of their own properties. Joe Siragusa will host our Guest Speaker and this should prove to a very interesting topic Club Meeting - Last Week - Board Meeting Last Wednesday evening our Club held its first formal get together for this calendar year and as always there was a great deal to discuss, present, and deliberate on a number of important items of business were presented such as: our current Financial Status, The Mens Shed involvement, The Peninsula Trail , Hunters Crossing Project, upcoming The Bays Hospital Projects, current Council Grants and The Moondah Project. At present our diligent Club Secretary young Ian Horton is busy at work decoding his Board Meeting Notes notes to which he will no doubt be presenting a thorough report by COB this coming Week, with a number of items to be put to the Members. Presidents Report 2023 Art Show and Beyond Since the recent conclusion of the Morning ton Art Show some three weeks ago the initial unofficial reports are that once again our Club hosted a very, very successful Art Show. It was very pleasing for all involved especially in regards to the Set-up and logistic factors to be “back in our usual” being the Peninsula Community Theatre on Wilsons Road. Over the coming weeks our Art Show chair will be compiling a full report for his presentation planned at our Club Meeting on Wednesday 08thMar 2023. With the bulk of the physical component of the Art show now completed but still a fair amount of admin and financial matters still to be concluded our attention as a Club now turns to the next six months of proposed and ongoing Club Projects. From last weeks Board Meeting there a number of projects on the horizon and the major one being the Moondah Project. Most of us are aware of this major Project where The Mornington Community Centre in conjunction with our two neighbouring Rotary Clubs will be undertaking part in the very large and extensive Auction of assets within the Estate. The Auction has been earmarked for the first weekend in May, so Ross K along with our President Elect Pam Hall, will providing an update for this Project very shortly within the next few weeks at our Club Meeting. Our Clubs involvement within the Hunters Crossing Project is still to some degree still open and ongoing with with still funds to the value of $1k left of the $3k SE Water Grant. It is planned to spend these funds on more spraying, mulch and planting in autumn when the weather cools down. A recent Tanti Friends Group working bee tidied up the area. It is looking good, with some great growth and an illustration of what can be achieved. Our Club still has two Council Grants that are currently “on the go ‘and the ability to utilise these grants will be a topic at this week’s Club Meeting. Guest Speaker Team Our Guest Speaker team consisting of Joe Siragusa, Peter Jay, John Parkinson and Ken Bilham along with some very enthusiastic support from Pam Hall and Ross Kilborn have been hard at work sourcing some very interesting Guest to present at our upcoming Club Meetings. I would strongly encourage all members to “be on the lookout “ for potential Guest Speakers and if you “spot one “ please let either Joe and/or Peter know ASAP as all “contributions” will be most welcome. |
