Our Bulletin editor is having a week off.
Thanks to last week’s speaker, Caitlin Swanton from Fusion.
Caitlin, the Centre Manager at Fusion, was a very appropriate speaker in the lead into “Sleep In Your Car” and Homelessness week. Her talk was accompanied by some photos, which gave some insight into their operation and services at Mt.Martha. Her personal passion was inspiring.
Victor’s team is progressing the detailed assessment of what is involved in the building of a female bathroom for Fusion at their Mt.Martha site. More details as this progresses.
Sleep in your Car – in support of Fusion
Thank you to those members who have donated!
So far the total raised is nearing $28,000, above their target of $25000. A great result!
Mornington Rotary is the second highest fund raising team, and is just short of our target of $2500, before the deposits made directly to our club account are remitted. We’ll have a final tally on Wed night.
If you have not yet donated – it’s not too late …!
or deposit it to the Club Bank Account with a clear description and John will arrange a Club payment.
Fusion conducted an on line program of speakers and entertainment from 6 to 10pm, which we watched, along with about 40 others. It reinforced my understanding of the value of Fusion to our community.
Lyn and I opted for the tent, a small 2 man nylon version, in the backyard. (we decided the car in the driveway under the street light did not offer a lot, so took the soft option). Fortunately it was a dry and relatively mild winter night, though the wind was wild. And of course we knew it was only for one night.
This weeks speakers is Stuart Davis-Meehan from Mornington Information and Support Centre. Recall Stuart spoke to us last year, and this week he will update us on how the Mornington Community is coping with COVI9, the Change in Services his office has undertaken, homelessness, and anything else you would like to ask about.
It’s at 6pm at
A possible new community youth project. We have been approached by Stewart Morgan of Bay Events (who we worked with on the Briars Car Parking) to be involved in a new project he is planning, around engaging youth and developing young local musicians. If you have any interest in this we need a couple of club members to get involved. In the initial stage that is just about understanding it in more detail. Please let me know if that is you!
Finally …I appreciate that statistics of the last week, and Sunday’s announcements, are confronting for most people. The Board has a meeting in a couple of weeks at which we can talk about what more we can be doing for members and the community, so if you have any thoughts, we would be pleased to hear them. Maybe Stuart’s presentation on Wednesday night will provoke some thinking?
Regards
Ross
