19th September 2021
From the Editor's Desk
Good afternoon to my fellow Mornington Rotary Colleagues and partners. Well the much anticipated "pathway/ roadmap" out of lockdown has just been released and it certainly seems that we just might be back to a normal lifestyle for this coming Christmas/ New Year, and from a Rotary Club prospective we can now most likely be able to "get up and around" and hopefully get together in the next few months for a face to face chat and share a wine or two, if not inside we might be able to gather " in the park around The Long Table", on that note it has been pleasing to see, under current restrictions, that our Long Table is being put to good use.

Club Meetings - Last Week

At last weeks meeting our Guest Speaker was Brett Holland the Unit Controller from the Hastings SES Branch. Brett provided with a brief overview of the services and general structure of the SES and in particular the Hastings Unit.
The focus of Brett’s presentation was to deliver a very detailed account of the Units response to the rather violent and intense storm that the Mornington Peninsula was struck by over a three-day period in June this year.
Such was the intensity of this storm it streched all Emergency Professional and Volunteer Organisations to their max of their ability to deliver help to the community , just to display the amount of callouts for this storm in one 24hrs period:  It was the busiest night in SES history, with the SES state controller saying Hastings was the hardest-hit area on the peninsula. Residents made 190 calls for help in the 24 hours from midday Wednesday to midday Thursday. Other badly-affected areas were Sorrento with 84 calls, Mount Eliza 74, Mount Martha 46, Mornington 43, Rosebud 22, Somerville 14, Balnarring 12, Red Hill 11, and Rye 11.
This brief article can only describe what an amazing job that SES do for our community but the pics that Brett showed us were amazing and brought home the mass of damange, in particular that the fallen trees caused, was astounding.
Such was the ferocity of the storm that the State Controller on two occasions throughout this storm incident directed all SES Units to “ shutdown/ stand-down to all calls outs “.
Brett’s account of his Units call outs and the specific details of each incident enlightened us to a very stressful and dangerous situations that the SES team place themselves in to provide a truly vital service to members of the community, who at times find themselves in a very stressful and harmful environment.  The Rotary Club of Mornington wish to extend a tremendous amount of gratitude to Brett and all his crew at SES Hastings for their outstanding service to our community. Thanks and keep up the good work, well done.

Upcoming Club Meeting- Wed 22nd Sep 21

At this weeks upcoming meeting we will hear from our Past President Ross. Thanks to our "sticky fingered" host when some weeks ago, pushed the wrong button !! well the problem has now been rectified and what was planned to be a "visual presentation" can now go ahead, this Wednesday evening, and also since our last update on what now has been renamed The Peninsula Trail, there has been a lot of progress in relation to the partnership with council and also the financial grants that are on the table. This project is a major Rotary 100th Year Project, so please grab a glass of wine and join in to hear about the latest developments.

Birthdays & Anniversaries
This week will mark not one but two special ocassions for the one household when the Renowden's celebrate a Wedding Anniversary and also a Birthday in the same week. A very big and special "well done" for today Sunday 19th Sep 21, to John and Maree who celebrate their Wedding Anniversary and on Tuesday when Maree celebrates her Birthday.  To the Renowden's on behalf of our Club President, the Board, all our Members and their Partners we wish you both a very happy and enjoyable week, and even though you can't venture out for that romantic dinner I'm sure that a stay at home evening will be jus as special. Well done.

Presidents Report 19th Sep 2021
Good after afternoon to all,

As I compile this weeks Presidents Report I have got my “ computer screen open “ and I am very intently listening to our Roadmap out of Lockdown and from what I hear we are still under the current restrictions, we most of us have expected, for a time to come, but having said this It certainly seems that we have a bright future, to come, and I am looking forward to three keys dates the 26th Sep then on or about the 26th Oct and then on or about the 5th Nov 21, we just may “ be back to normal” and things are looking good for XMAS and family interaction and on a Club note the lockdown roadmap gives me  a “good feeling“ about our Club getting together face to face for a great XMAS Social function and also very importantly, presenting another successful 2022 Art Show.
