New Member's Induction At Our Clubs Annual Christmas Function, last Wednesday evening, we all witnessed another special event, that being the induction of two new members into the Rotary Club of Mornington. Our Club President Ross Kilborn, who has now become that adept with the ceremony, almost reading without notes, verbatim, welcomed back Leigh Power and new inductee Judy Seager as our latest members'. Well done to Leigh and Judy and your energy and expertise skills should prove to be a valuable member of our club. Congratulations on your Induction. Our new Club Inductee's in Christmas regal, Leigh Power and Judy Seager with Club President Ross Kilborn Mornington Rotary Club - Annual Christmas Dinner On Wednesday evening, just gone, our club came together to celebrate the time honoured tradition of a Christmas Dinner. Our location for this function was at our Club's regular meeting venue of the Mornington Hotel. The meal was very sumptuous and the selection of wines complemented the meal. With a very few matters of Club Business dealt with at the commencement of the night we then proceed to enjoy an evening with copious quantities of fine food and drink. The night was filled with a great sense of fellowship, good cheer and happiness. The staff of the Mornington Hotel once gain proved to be outstanding hosts and the service, and attention to detail was excellent Paul Harris Fellow - Awards Along with festivities of our Clubs Christmas Function came a very special and noteworthy presentation, that being the very prestigious award of the Paul Harris Fellow. At this years function our club bestowed this honour to two inspirational and valuable members of the Mornington Community. Our First recipient was David Lancashire, a long time member of the Mornington Rotary Club, for his dedication to the values and ethos of Rotary in his never ending ability to give to others above self within all facets of the Club and especially to the amazing work ethics he displays in the community area with his involvement, management and participation of the Clubs fund-raising events such as the BBQ's. Our second recipient, for the evening was Kerry Larder. Although Kerry is not a member of the club this does not in any way take away from the amazing work and support she, over many years, has provided to the Rotary club of Mornington. Kerry has worked tirelessly to support the Clubs Art Show sponsorship and logistic support and along with David are truly worthy recipients of the Paul Harris Fellow. Well done to David and Kerry. Past Club President, Libby Paterson, with Paul Harris Fellow recipients, David Lancashire and Kerry Larder Tis the season of BBQ's With Christmas cheer all around us The Rotary Club of Mornington have turned their attention, over the past week, to providing our local community, and also our Club with valuable funds, by " cooking up a storm " with two BBQ'S. The first being the Farrells Corner Feast and the second for the hungry carollers at the Annual Carols in the Park. Both BBQ's were conducted, back too back, last Saturday morning then a quick clean up, a reform and down to the park for and late afternoon / early evening dinner of fine sausages and onions. Thanks to our organisers Ian Horton and Peter Jay and all those members who helped out at both venues, well done to all. A retrospect of the last six months from the Editor. Well what an amazing six months it has been, in what only “seems to be yesterday “ since our Club Change- Over on Wednesday 19th July 2019. From then until now the Rotary Club of Mornington has once again conducted, experienced and partaken in a vast array of activities, so lets have a brief look back at our last six months and reflect on a few of the many “ undertakings “ we have achieved. Some of our special Guest Speaker’s have included, Graeme Rocke from SafeLink, John Baker the CEO from the MPSC, David Gill our previous Mayor taking on Native Bee’s, Gary Crittenden providing an insight to the history of the Wine Industry on the Mornington Peninsula, Ian Stevenson talking on the amazing Fossil Beach right here in our own backyard, an enlightening presentation into 100 years of Rotary in Australia, Andrew Plympton providing us with a special insight to the world of the Olympics and International Yachting, and Nicholas Lynch, one of newest Club Members, presenting a dynamic presentation into the Mornington Peninsula Real Estate market, just to mention a few. We also “went on a few excursions “ one of particular note was the tour thru the production line of the JAYCO Caravan Assembly Plant. A few social engagements’ saw Club Members partake in an Italian Night at one of our local eateries, a Guess Who’s coming to Dinner culinary experience hosted by some of our Club’s budding gastronomical sous-chefs, a weekend away in the Victorian Goldfields at the delightful RACV Resort and also an oldie but a goodie with a “night at the flicks” and a pleasant but somewhat blustery evening of Bare Foot Bowls. But it would be reprehensive of me to not to make mention one of our Clubs special events the backbone of our endeavours in what we do best, that being our fundraising which in turn directly supports our community activities. Our support and collaboration with the local schools from the Schools Showcase to the Scholarship Grants, assistance at the Arthurs Seat Challenge, the Clubs involvement in the Peninsula Community forum on Loneliness and the valuable contribution to the Community Christmas Hamper Appeal. A number of youth sponsorship’s both at local school and International levels, and ongoing support of our nominees at the RYLA Camps. But one could not fail to remember our many, many hours spent “toiling over a hot BBQ Plate” to raise funds via our Bunning’s BBQ’s and this year we can include the Farrell’s Corner and Carols in the Park BBQ’s. With the end of the year very rapidly coming to a close there’s still plenty of work out there to be done, and I speak of the all the background and face to face work done thus far on our Clubs landmark event out Art Show. In all we as a club have borne some very special achievements in such a short time. As a relatively new member to the world of Rotary, and after having served in an organisation at National level, I can categorically say I have only experienced such dedication to the service of community (and nation) in my previous employment to that what I now experience within Rotary and in particular our club at Mornington. We should be all very proud, as a collective, of our achievements thus far. With a short respite over the Christmas/ New Year period, it will be “ all hands on deck “ in the New Year. I reiterate the words of our Club President, “ to all have a very safe and happy Christmas and New Year, stay safe, happy and healthy. Rotary Club of Mornington Bulletin Editor |
