From the Editor's Desk Good evening to all Mornington Rotary Club Members, Partners and Families and I hope all is well. Are my eyes deceiving me or did I see the first signs of blossom yesterday, mmm. And on that note we welcome back to sunny Melb another one of our happy wanderers from up north in John & Maree Renowden, and just maybe they have brought back a bit of warmer weather with them. For the Bilham's and the Horton's, well for your holiday plans to warmer climates you can only keep your fingers crossed, good luck. For those who still in the Footy tipping Contest (I'm going going backwards if that possible) its looks like our own Fran Chambers is knocking on the door to be in the "Grand Final" just one tip off the top of the ladder, well done Fran only a few rounds to go ! Don't forget its coming up to Census time of the year, next week on Tuesday night 10th Aug 21, will find us " ticking and crossing all those boxes " Our Next Club Meeting, Wed 04th August 21 - Another ZOOM Meeting As we all expected our upcoming Club Meeting, this week, will once again be via online ZOOM. Our regular meeting place of the Mornington Hotel have had to close both Function Rooms, due to COVID density limits and this may not change for at least another two weeks , or so !!!! At this weeks meeting we will have two of our members provide brief Bio on themselves, this should be relaxed and informative along with number of items of club business and hopefully we can hear from young John Renowden about his adventures up north in the sun. Once we get back to some sort of normality there are a number of interesting Guest Speakers scheduled to attend our Club; This weeks upcoming Club Meetings online details are : Meeting ID 778 3322 4564 , and Passcode D6BRYk, the link to directly log-into the meeting will be sent out tomorrow to all members. Subject to any further restrictions a "planned schedule" of up coming events are: * A Club Social evening at the Uthong Thai Resturant in Main St, Mornington * Guest Speakers from, Mornington Fire Brigade, the CEO from The Bays Hospital and John Hall on Legal Matters, and a * Club Assembly Meeting So a few events to look forward to so keep an eye out for specific dates of upcoming events specific dates to be confirmed for promulgation in next weeks Club Bulletin Bunning's BBQ - Saturday 07th August 2021. This coming Saturday our Club will conduct another Bunnings BBQ, and a big thanks to those Members and Partner's who have volunteered to help out with cooking , money and general serving& cleaning tasks. Afternoon Team - 1:00 pm to 4:00pm (Including Clean up) Peter Jay, Fran & Daryl Chambers, Ian Horton, Brian Mann & David L. Presidents Report 01st August 2021 Good evening to all 1. In this weeks Presidents report I am pleased to inform that two of our Club’s Board Members in Jo-Anne Davie and Pam Hall are on their way to our 9820 District Leadership Forum to be held close by at Drouin, this coming Saturday. These forums are a great introduction to the world of Rotary and also an excellent way in which to connect and instigate future working contacts with fellow Rotarians. Very worthwhile. 2. Our Annual Club Fees are now due and it is great to see we have a 70% payment status thus far with only about 7 Members still to pay their Annual Dues. Thanks to those Members who have already paid, well done. 3. With last weeks Presidents Peninsula Cluster meeting the one overriding item that we are all “ suffering “ at present, as a result of the constant lockdowns is Member Meetings attendance, attracting new Members into our Clubs and Active Fundraising. The item of new Membership is one that I would encourage all members to be “ active in “ and as we now see the possible amalgamation of our 9820 District into 9810 District, although not a forgone deliberation right now, but it looks like it might be more on the side of a real possibility!! This is down to one single factor Membership. Both Districts ability to attract new members over the next 10 months will determine an amalgamation outcome or not. 4. With the COVID restriction’s and specifically Hospitality density limits, I have, on more than one occasion over the past four weeks had to re-arrange our Clubs Events Calender, being Social, Club Business and working with Pam H our Social Gathering’s. One area of important Club Business that I have been unable to conduct is our Club Assembly. This meeting and the reports presented is very important to the overall management and functioning of our day to day running processes, and I believe that this meeting requires face to face interaction, discussion and deliberation, and cannot be effectively presented via ZOOM, hence the delay in scheduling a Club Assembly. Hopefully to scheduled within the next three to four weeks. 5. A visit to our regular meeting venue, The Mornington Hotel, and a chat with Kayla, the Hospitality Manger has informed me that The Stratton Room has been closed until further notice and hopefully on or around the 10th August we may have more information on possible easing of COVID restrictions, but as always “ how log is a piece of string ‘ so watch this space. 6. This weeks meeting (Wednesday 04th August) will one again see us online with ZOOM, and I am aware “its not everyone’s cup of tea “ so I have kept the meeting to the 45 minute time limit, and direct feedback from all our upcoming Guest Speakers have informed me that ZOOM “ is not an option for their Presentations, so until we get back to some sort of normality our meetings have more of “ keep in touch, social, items of interest from club business and a general fellowship theme. 7. Its great to see we have another one of our fellow travellers return safely from Interstate this week, so welcome back home to Maree & John Renowden. For those members and their partners still interstate, who knows “ when, how and what your timeline might be, good luck with this 8. Last week I had a call from John Parkinson who passed on an inquiry from Stewart Morgan from Bay Events, who you may recall has conducted a number of Musical Events on the Peninsula and also a few at the Briar’s, that our Club has assisted with. Stewart is seeking assistance in sourcing any one who may have “ space to store “ a number of items that he utilises in staging the Musical events. About a “ garage size ‘ space, so if you know of any one that can assist they can contact Stewart on 0487 010044, thanks Brian |
