Club Meetings- Last Week

Well the days of ZOOM Club Meetings are now behind us, and its was a very pleasing to finally get back to The Mornington Hotel to hold our first face to face Club Meeting since way back on the a chilly Winters evening on the 14th July 21 when we hosted our last Guest Speaker's (116 days ago) from Peninsula Heart Clinic. Since then and up to last Wednesday evening, for those who tuned in and logged on for the ZOOM Meetings, we held 16 meetings comprising of approx 850 minutes or 14 hrs of  "screen time". With that facet of Club Meetings now behind us for those who were able to come along to the meeting, last Wednesday, it was a great evening. There were the obligatory items of Club News from the President, but for the majority of the evening we had a great social gathering. One time hounered tradition of Rotary Meetings is the Toast & Invocation, and it was great to stand and partake in this aspect of our meeting. Some pleasant table setting decorations, a social table configuration, the oldie but a goodie being a " Pub Meal", and a few glasses of wine saw a return to fellowship. One highlight of the evening was a brief presentation to two of our Club Members, in Jo-Anne Davie and Eileen Prudden, who were presented with a Pin and Certificate of acknowledgement and appreciation in becoming Friends of ARH, well done to Eileen and Jo. During the week our Club received correspondence from the Board of Directors from ARH in the form of a Certificate of Appreciation congratulating our Club for the participation and sponsorship for the Indigenous Health Scholarship.

Club Meeting - Upcoming AGM - Wed 17th Nov 21

Our Club Meeting Scheduled for this coming Wednesday evening will be our AGM to be held at our usual venue at The Mornington Hotel commencing at 6 for 6;30pm , and as a result of The Stratton Room being unavailable we will gather inThe Upstairs Function Room

Remembrance Day
Last Thursday for many of us we took a small minute to pause and pay our respects to those who served and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in order that we have to privilege to live our lives in freedom.  As has been the tradition for quite a few years now, members of our Club in John Renowden, Ted Moore, Leigh Power and Judy Seager, attended the Remembrance Day Ceremony which is hosted by The Mornington Secondary College. As we have come to expect, once again the College and in particular the students, who script and conduct this special event presented a very moving and respectful ceremony.

Club XMAS Dinner - 08th Dec 21

We need to inform the Golf  Club of attendees for seating, catering and with COVID implications the big one is staffing levels that all our Hospitality Industry is very much struggling to fulfil. 2022 Art Show

With our new venue confirmed (the new Mornington Community House, in Wilsons Rd) for the 2022Mornington Art Show, there are number of plans that are now being actioned and one of these is that our Youth Chair Judy in conjunction with John R are " out and about" gathering Art from our local Schools for storage and subsequently to be put on display come the 20th Jan 2022. As we get closer towards the end of the year and also within the first week of 2022 there will be updates, taskings, rosters etc and more information to be presented by our Art Show Chair, Richard.

Birthdays
Last week two of our "more mature" Club Members celebrated their Birthdays in John Parkinson and Ken Bilham. Their birthdays coincided with our return to The Mornington Hotel and a face to face personal Birthday well wishes was planned but with family very eager to celebrate Pop's Birthday, in a home/social personal setting we will have to wait a bit longer for a Birthday song and for Ken we all hope your Birthday went well and wish you a safe and speedy recovery from " nic ". To John & Ken on behalf of all our members we wish you ' a belated " Happy Birthday, well done gents.

Presidents Report - 14th Nov 21
Good afternoon to all,

Last weeks Club Meeting
It was with great pleasure that I had the opportunity to host our first meeting back at The Mornington Hotel on Wednesday evening, and a very big thanks to all those who could make it on the night, and to both John P and Ken B who intended to attend, but were “involved in other activities “ such as possibly eating to much Birthday Cake or “counting backwards from 100 “ I hope both are OK and making a speedy recovery.

Letter of Appreciation - ARH
Over the weekend I received a letter of appreciation from The ARH – Western Aus. Team, acknowledging The Rotary Club of Mornington in regards to the formulation of ARH here within our club and I will be reading out this correspondence at our AGM this coming Wednesday evening.

RLI – Rotary Leadership Institute
This weekend our 9820 District hosted the Rotary Leadership Institute Forum at Drouin. This forum was originally planned to be presented some eight weeks ago but alas our recent Lockdown put a stop to this. It was great to see Judy Seager, from our Club attend this session with the second session to be held in early Dec. Well done Judy and I’m sure we will hear from you with a brief overview once the second session has been completed.

9820 District AGM
Our District AGM was held yesterday morning, via ZOOM Link, with some 25 Office Bearers across our District register as Voting Members tune in. The meeting was conducted over a 40min time frame and all Agenda Items that were presented received nomination and subsequently were approved. In particular the 9820 District nominated Board Members were all approved for the 2022-2023 Rotary Year.  Paul Mee who is the current DG Elect will under take the role of 9820 DG for the term of 2022-2023 was approved.

NADC AUSTRALIA DAY 2022 COMMUNITY EVENTS GRANTS
As I announced at our Club Meeting, last Wednesday evening, the opportunity has presented itself once again for our Rotary Clubs to participate in the Australia Day community events. As you may recall this grant was first presented for Aus. Day in 2021 and we are again fortunate enough to have this grant on offer again. One of the factors that have altered from last years grant is that the financial offer has increased and the advice that we have received fro District is that  “ Community not-for-profits will be eligible to apply for grants between $10,000 to $20,000. This is a change from last year where they have imposed a minimum grant application of $10,000 (excl GST). This will probably knock out any single Club in our District trying to apply on their own. We will need to continue to create "cluster" Club applications where their event costs will cover at least $10,000.”

Regards

Brian
