.....but have a rest this week as we will not be holding a club meeting
88Ks in a Day at The Bays
This festive birthday celebration and fundraising event saw Jade Phelan, CEO, and Steve O'Connor, CFO, help clock up the 88 kilometres target in the hospital foyer..... in fact the team managed over 125km!
Our club members helped The Bays volunteers with the sausage sizzle and the sale of raffle tickets while encouraging the runners to go higher, stronger, faster!
Funds raised exceeded $20,000 and will be added to the Nurse Education Fund which will ultimately benefit all who live on the Mornington Peninsula.
GUEST SPEAKERS
Marguerite Poole, from Mornington Green Living Legacy Gardens gave a thought provoking and open talk about many things relating to the end of life.
Highlighting the need to speak openly about death, and to make our wishes known to our families, Marguerite was a warm and engaging speaker and she highlighted the beautiful memorial gardens as a way of commemorating our lives.
Marguerite Poole and Judy Seager
We had the pleasure of having Charlotte Redey, the president of Peninsula Rotaract for 25/26 as our guest speaker.
Charlotte gave us a history of Peninsula Rotaract which had commenced in 2015 but went into recess in 2020 due to the pandemic.
It wasn’t until April 2024 that it was refounded by a group of very passionate young people and sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of
Peninsula 2.0 and Rosebud Rye.
Charlotte shared with us the success of their Toothbrush+ project which gives essential dental and sanitary products together with toiletries in a homemade bag to people who otherwise wouldn’t have them. She also
told us about the Nepal service trip which many of her club members had undertaken in late 2024. There they were involved in the Koshish
Garden Project, creating teaching resources and painting a mural. Club members will be returning to Nepal later this year. It was very inspiring to hear from such a passionate and enthusiastic young person. Charlotte is a most enthusiastic and energetic speaker and not to be missed!
MORNINGTON ROTARY GREENWAY
Planting out the Mornington Rotary Greenway
Mornington Shire Deputy Mayor, Paul Pingiaro and the Bays Hospital CEO, Jade Phelan
helped launch the Mornington Rotary Greenway recently, a transformative project set to create a vibrant green corridor connecting Mornington foreshore to its hinterland. The first section of this ambitious initiative was successfully planted at the end of July, marking a significant milestone in bringing more green spaces into our urban areas, much like the Briars Forest created by Rotary in 1981.
This initial planting, located along the old Mornington Railway line adjacent to The Bays
Hospital, celebrates the hospital's vital community contributions and aligns with the
Council’s proposed Peninsula Trail route and Urban Forest Strategy.
This project is a collaborative effort, with funding from the Mornington Peninsula Shire
Council’s Climate Action and Local Area Community Capital and Infrastructure Grants,
alongside contributions from the Rotary Club of Mornington and Rotary District 9815. The
next stage of planting will be between Barkly Street and Esplanade, taking in three small
parks along the way. In the future, the Mornington Rotary Greenway is expected to include walking and cycling paths as part of Council’s Peninsula Trail – this is the beginning of something big!
WHAT'S ON IN OTHER CLUBS IN OUR DISTRICT?
Rotary Club of Sorrento
The Rotary Club of Sorrento is staging the Famous Insurance Brokers Point Nepean Heritage Motor Show on Sunday, 2 November 2025, as a community activity for all to enjoy. The location of the event at the historic Point Nepean Quarantine Station provides a unique and great environment for staging this heritage-themed event.
On the day, we are expecting more than 400 cars to be exhibited and approximately 2000 people to attend from both the local community and from afar. The event will be open to the public from 10.00am to 2.00pm.
